Two injured as gunman opens fire through window at Rand Collieries home
Brakpan police are probing an incident in which a couple was shot while investigating footsteps outside their house.
A Rand Collieries couple was shot during an early-morning attack at their home on February 6.
According to police information, officers were on routine patrol when they received a report of an incident at a residence along Witpoortjie Street.
They responded to the scene and were met by a woman who identified herself as the sister of the homeowner.
The woman told police she was asleep in her bedroom when she heard footsteps outside the house at around 02:30.
She woke her brother and sister-in-law, and the three went to investigate.
The brother armed himself with his licensed firearm, and the sister-in-law checked the sliding door but found no signs of forced entry.

Shortly thereafter, two shots were fired from outside through a window. One shot struck the brother on his left shoulder, while the second hit his wife on her right foot.
The brother returned fire with one shot in the direction of the gunman, who then fled the scene. The exact number of intruders is unknown.
The injured couple was transported to a hospital by ambulance. At the scene, police found two live 9mm rounds on the floor inside the house, one cartridge and two projectiles also inside the residence.
Two spent cartridges were recovered outside by the back door.
It was also found that the kitchen window had been removed, and a screwdriver, believed to have been used to gain access, was found near the window. Two counts of attempted murder are under investigation by Brakpan SAPS.
