Brakpan police are probing an incident in which a couple was shot while investigating footsteps outside their house.

A Rand Collieries couple was shot during an early-morning attack at their home on February 6.

According to police information, officers were on routine patrol when they received a report of an incident at a residence along Witpoortjie Street.

They responded to the scene and were met by a woman who identified herself as the sister of the homeowner.

The woman told police she was asleep in her bedroom when she heard footsteps outside the house at around 02:30.

She woke her brother and sister-in-law, and the three went to investigate.

The brother armed himself with his licensed firearm, and the sister-in-law checked the sliding door but found no signs of forced entry.
