Room rental ruse turns into house robbery
Two men tricked a Dalpark resident into opening his door before forcing him inside at gunpoint.
A request to rent a room was used as a ploy by robbers to gain access to a Dalpark home on the evening of February 9.
Police information reveals that the victim was at his Kersboom Avenue residence when he heard a knock at the door at around 20:30.
After asking who was outside, a man responded that he wanted to enquire about a room to rent.
The victim went outside and found two men, who said they had been informed by a woman living upstairs that there was a room available.
He informed them that there was no room to rent and offered to walk them to the gate. As they approached the gate, the men positioned the victim between them.

One of them then pulled out a firearm and pointed it at the victim, instructing him to return to the house. When asked who else was inside the house, the victim told them there was no one else present.
Inside the house, the men tied the victim’s hands with shoelaces and forced him to lie on a bed where he was held at gunpoint.
They told him they were there to kill him.
One of the men then went to the lounge and took a TV, two cellphones and a pair of tekkies, and the duo fled the scene.
A house robbery case has been opened at Brakpan SAPS.
