Brakpan weekend crime round-up: Woman attacked while waiting for a taxi

An overview of crimes reported to local SAPS from February 6 to 8.

The following crimes were reported to Brakpan police over the past weekend:

Friday – A woman was robbed at gunpoint and assaulted in Witpoort Estates while waiting for a taxi. The victim left her home at around 05:00 to go to a market.

When she left, she noticed men emerging from a yard opposite her residence but continued on her way. When she reached the stop street, at the corner of 2nd and Ergo roads, two men stood beside her.

She thought they were also waiting for a taxi. One of the men then demanded her belongings while threatening her with a firearm.

The man searched her and took R700 and her cellphone, striking her several times with the weapon before fleeing the scene.

• Armed men robbed a man and his son in Dalview, taking possessions valued at hundreds of thousands of rand.
The incident took place at around 14:00 along Gloucester Avenue.

While stopped in their vehicle, four armed men approached the pair and pointed firearms at them. The robbers were wearing balaclavas and were travelling in a Suzuki. The specific valuables taken were not disclosed.

• Two trailers were stolen from an address along Olga Street in Brenthurst.

• A car parked along Queen Avenue was broken into, and the vehicle’s radio was stolen.

• Tools, a pair of tekkies and other household items were stolen during a burglary at a Wenden Avenue residence.

Saturday – A black Ford Ranger Wildtrak was stolen from Mall@Carnival.

Sunday – A TV was stolen during a break-in at a home along Taft Avenue.
• A brown Hyundai ix35 was stolen from Mall@Carnival.
