VW Polo taken in Brenthurst hijacking
A woman, her daughter, and another passenger in the car were threatened at gunpoint, with cellphones and personal items stolen.
A female motorist, her daughter, and a passenger they were dropping off, fell victim to hijackers in Brenthurst on the evening of February 16.
According to police information, the trio, travelling in a charcoal-coloured Volkswagen Polo, were stopped at an address along Merriman Street when a white BMW pulled up in front of them at about 19:30.
Two men, both armed with pistols, exited the BMW and approached the Polo. The hijackers forced the driver and the passenger into the back seat of the vehicle, while one of the men joined them.
The driver’s daughter remained in the front passenger seat as the second man drove the Polo. The hijackers took the victims’ cellphones and instructed the driver to open her banking app.
They were later dropped off at an undisclosed location.
The hijackers fled with the Polo, and other goods inside the car, including a pair of shoes, a wallet, and an umbrella. A hijacking case has been opened at Brakpan SAPS.
