EMPD Intervention Unit officers recently arrested a 52-year-old man in Brakpan for possession of an unlicensed firearm, ammunition and suspected stolen property.

According to the EMPD, while patrolling along Lemmer Road, officers noticed a white Hyundai bakkie parked in nearby bushes.

Upon approaching the vehicle to investigate, they found one male occupant inside. A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of copper and aluminium cables loaded in the back.

The man was searched and found in possession of an unlicensed 9mm firearm, a magazine and eight live rounds of ammunition.

He was immediately arrested and detained at the Brakpan Police Station, and was expected to appear in court soon.
