Attempted hijacking foiled after vehicle fails to start

The hijacking attempt was abandoned after the culprits were unable to start the vehicle.

Would-be hijackers fled empty-handed after failing to start the vehicle they were attempting to steal.

According to police information, the incident took place along Kitzinger Avenue just after 19:00 on April 23.

After stopping at an address to drop off her friend, the 55-year-old driver of a Chevrolet Utility remained in the vehicle while waiting for her companion to enter the house.

She then noticed a vehicle park nearby, after which a man approached her vehicle and pointed a firearm at her.

The gunman instructed the woman to get out of the bakkie. The gunman and an accomplice attempted to start the vehicle but were unsuccessful.

The woman’s friend then came out of the house and asked what was happening, and the woman started shouting for help.

Her friend also started shouting for help, prompting the men to flee the scene without the vehicle.

An attempted hijacking case is under investigation by Brakpan SAPS.
