Brakpan SPCA inspectors worked tirelessly today (February 16) to ensure the arrest of a man in his 20s on a charge of animal cruelty.

The Brenthurst man, who was detained by local SAPS earlier this evening, is accused of pushing his cat over a neighbour’s wall where it was attacked and killed by dogs.

Brakpan SPCA manager Tamaryn Lombard told the Brakpan Herald the incident took place at around 06:00.

The distressing scene was captured by security cameras from a neighbouring property and the SPCA was notified.

According to Lombard, the video footage has been widely circulated.

“The investigation is fully underway and the law must take its course,” she added.
