Truckers targeted by hijackers

Two truck hijackings took place in Brakpan on Wednesday.

A truck driver transporting aluminium doors from Johannesburg to Mpumalanga was robbed of the vehicle and cargo in Brakpan on Wednesday.

The incident took place at around 08:00 along the N17 highway near Dalpark. According to information received from Brakpan SAPS, the driver was instructed to pull over by traffic police.

Once stopped, a man dressed in uniform and in possession of a firearm approached the driver and told him the truck’s number plate was loose.

When the driver went to check, he was confronted by two gunmen. The pair had alighted from a Toyota Hilux.

Two other men got out of the bakkie and got into the truck and drove off. The hijackers also took two cellphones and R380 cash.

Another truck driver fell victim to hijackers later that morning. This hijacking took place just after 10:00 along the R23.

The driver was forced to stop by the occupants of a white Opel Corsa. His hands were tied with shoelaces and he was blindfolded.

The hijackers drove off with him and later transferred him to another vehicle. He was dropped off in Protea Glen, Johannesburg.
