Brakpan weekend crime round-up: Security guard assaulted during robbery

An overview of crimes reported to local SAPS from January 16 to 18.

The following crimes were reported to Brakpan police over the past weekend:

Friday – A trailer was stolen from a property along Glamorgan Avenue in Dalview.

Saturday – A home along Gloucester Street in Kenleaf was burgled of tools and other valuables.

• A cellphone was stolen during a break-in at an address along Prince George Avenue.

• Tools were stolen from a store room on a property along Stoffberg Avenue.

Sunday – Undisclosed valuables were stolen during a burglary at a residence along Northdene Avenue.

• A group of four robbers ambushed two security guards on duty at a business along 2nd Road in Sallies Village.

The incident took place just before 01:00, when four men forced open the guard room door. Two of the intruders were armed with firearms.

One man approached one of the guards and ordered him to sit on the ground, while two others confronted the second guard.

The fourth man tied the first guard with a cellphone charger cable. The men searched both guards and demanded to know where firearms were kept.

They were told there were no firearms on the premises.

The men also tied the second guard with a kettle cord. They took the guards’ cellphones, pepper spray, handcuffs, company-issued clothing, and a company identification card.

The second guard was assaulted, and struck on the head with a firearm.
After the robbery, the intruders demanded the key to the gate and then fled the scene.
