Brakpan hit by double hijacking in single evening
One victim was targeted while opening his gate at home, while another was ambushed after stopping for a road obstruction.
Brakpan police are investigating two separate hijacking incidents on May 24 in which motorists were kidnapped, robbed and later dumped in different locations.
The first incident involved a Brenthurst resident, who was ambushed by hijackers in the driveway of his Pienaar Street home at around 19:00.
Police information reveals the victim had just returned home from church and parked the silver Mahindra he was driving in the driveway.
He left the engine running while opening the main gate, with the driver’s door still open. A silver Renault Megane then stopped behind the vehicle and four armed men got out.
Two of the men pointed firearms at him and instructed him to accompany them. The hijackers forced the victim into the back seat of the Mahindra while one of the men held him at gunpoint.

Another went to the driver’s seat, a third occupied the front passenger seat, while the fourth drove off in the Megane.
The men drove around with the victim and demanded his cellphone and banking app passwords.
Although he provided the details, the hijackers entered the incorrect passwords, resulting in the banking application being blocked.
After some time, the vehicle stopped in a bushy area. One of the hijackers instructed the victim to get out, not look back, and lie on the ground.
The victim complied and the hijackers drove away. After waiting for some time, he got up and searched for help.
He had been dumped in Daveyton, near the N12 highway, and was assisted by a security guard. The victim then contacted the owner of the vehicle, who fetched him before they proceeded to the police station to open a case.

Later that evening, the driver of a white Toyota Conquest was abducted and robbed of his vehicle along Main Reef Road in Anzac, near the former Plastic City informal settlement, at around 23:00.
The victim’s path was blocked by a large rock placed in the middle of the road.
He stopped and got out of the vehicle. While attempting to move the rock, he was confronted by three armed men who threatened him with firearms.
The men tied his hands with rope and forced him into the back seat of his vehicle before driving off with him.
The men later dropped him off along Ergo Road in Vulcania. The hijackers searched him and took his wallet containing R1 200 in cash.
His bank cards were returned to him. Additional charges of kidnapping have been opened along with each hijacking case.
