City of Ekurhuleni Athletics Club marketing manager Noko Phil Matlou has joined Operation Hunger as a Hunger Hero to help the organisation’s mission to end malnutrition and build food-secure communities in South Africa.

Fresh from completing the 2026 Comrades Marathon, the Springs resident continues with his commitment to this important cause by taking on HYROX Cape Town from August 14 to 16.

Through this next endurance challenge, he aims to raise vital funds and increase awareness in the fight against hunger. Matlou is a veteran soccer player, marathon athlete, and passionate advocate for health and wellness.

As an athlete in the 50+ category and a proud gym member, fitness has always been more than just exercise to him. It is a lifestyle built on discipline, resilience, and purpose.

Over the years, he has completed four Comrades Marathons, as well as multiple Two Oceans and Sanlam Cape Town Marathons.

“Every race has taught me the value of endurance, commitment, and pushing beyond limitations,” he said.

“This year, I want my journey to mean even more. Too many families across South Africa continue to face the daily reality of hunger and malnutrition.

“Through this fundraiser with Operation Hunger, I hope to use my passion for running and wellness to make a meaningful difference in the lives of vulnerable communities.”

Every donation, no matter the size, will contribute towards helping Operation Hunger provide nutrition support and sustainable food security initiatives to those who need it most.
