EMPD leadership meeting focuses on safer communities and better service
Commissioner Isaac Mapiyeye brought senior commanders together in Brakpan to assess operational performance, address challenges and strengthen the department’s response to the safety needs of Ekurhuleni communities.
EMPD Commissioner Isaac Mapiyeye convened a strategic presentation meeting on August 20 with the department’s senior management at the Brakpan Council Chamber boardroom, bringing together the deputy commissioner, brigadiers, colonels and superintendents from various precincts and units.
“The meeting provided an opportunity for commanders to present on the work carried out within their respective precincts and units, highlighting operational achievements, policing activities, community safety initiatives, and other interventions implemented to address crime and traffic-related challenges across the City of Ekurhuleni,” said EMPD spokesperson Chief Superintendent Kelebogile Thepa.
Commanders also shared the challenges they encountered in their areas of responsibility, enabling senior management to gain a broader understanding of the operational realities officers on the ground face.
These discussions included areas requiring greater attention, improved co-ordination and strengthened resources to enhance the department’s ability to respond effectively to the needs of communities.

According to Thepa, the presentations form part of an ongoing effort by the EMPD leadership to assess the department’s performance, identify gaps and develop practical measures to improve service delivery and strengthen security.
Mapiyeye emphasised the importance of effective leadership, accountability, collaboration and continuous improvement in ensuring that the department remains responsive to the safety concerns of residents and road users.
“With very clear marching orders, the meeting concluded with a renewed focus on working collectively towards a safer and better Ekurhuleni, with senior management expected to continue monitoring progress, addressing identified challenges, and implementing measures aimed at improving the department’s overall performance and service delivery,” added Thepa.
