Brakpan SPCA tracks vervet monkey in Brenthurst and CBD
Local animal welfare officials are monitoring a primate roaming through urban neighbourhoods and urging the public to keep their distance.
The Brakpan SPCA is aware of a vervet monkey currently travelling through the Brenthurst and CBD areas.
The society’s team is keeping an eye on the monkey as it makes its way along its route.
While the SPCA notes that seeing a monkey on a roof or in a nearby tree can be surprising and even exciting, it strongly urges all residents not to intervene.
Residents are cautioned not to feed or approach the monkey, and to give it space. Feeding wild animals encourages them to stay in urban areas and puts them in danger.
Vervet monkeys are wild animals and will move along much faster if left alone. The monkey is simply passing through the area. If unbothered, it will naturally move on without any issues.
The SPCA thanked the community for its cooperation and for keeping local wildlife safe.
