Fairytales do come true with matric farewell fundraiser

Learners of Muriel Brand School had to raise funds to attend their matric farewell, and managed to do so with the help of a mine and a photoshoot.

Twenty matric learners at Muriel Brand School wanted to celebrate their farewell but needed to raise money. Blur Photography stepped in, offering a free High School Musical-themed photo shoot to attract potential sponsors.

“At first they were nervous, but soon they enjoyed the confidence boost of being in the spotlight. We messaged everyone we could think of, and Gold One Mines sponsored more than R50 000,” says Natalie Flaherty from Blur Photography.

“We at Blur Photography are so proud of this, because it shows that even something as small as a photograph can make a difference.

“Muriel Brand was our first charity photo shoot, and we had the privilege to take their matric farewell photos,” she continues.

With a goal of R25 000, the matrics could enjoy their farewell in style.

Ziyaad Hassam, Gold One’s company spokesperson, confirmed the sponsorship came from the Gold One Modder East Mine.
