The Springs resident has made mom Fikile Matsinye and dad Mpho Marametsi extremely proud.
Khanya has two brothers Muzikayise Shabangu and Malibongwe Matsinye, and a sister, Lindelwa Luloyamo Dlutle Matsinye.
Did you expect to be selected as head boy?
I was hoping to be the head boy, but after participating in the leadership day, I realised that everyone had the same determination.
I was not expecting to be the chosen one.
What are your duties?
My duties are to provide leadership to all the prefects and deputies.
I work together with the head girl to ensure that all the prefects carry out their duties effectively.
What do you hope to achieve this year?
To fly the flag of my school very high with pride and dignity.
To promote the image of my school so that we become popular for all the right reasons.
To gain knowledge and experience on how to become the best leader.
If you could be principal for a day, what would you do?
I would organise a trip to a school of underprivileged learners so that children from my school could experience a different setting out of their ordinary.
I would also organise an open day for all the teachers and learners to interact and get to know each other very well.
Which subject do you enjoy the most and why?
I enjoy mathematics the most because it is interesting and fun.
Furthermore, mathematics is the universal subject that can take you to greater heights.

Which is your least favourite subject and why?
History because all we learn about is the past.
Not that the past is not important, but the future seems more interesting.
Do you play sport at school and do you think it is important for children to participate in sport?
Yes, I play cricket at school and I have just enrolled for golf outside the school.
Sport keeps people strong and healthy and can help children to learn how to relate to others.
Most importantly, sport can open doors for those who are good at it.
Do you think there is hope for the youth of our country?
Yes and no.
Yes, because post-democracy, there have been so many opportunities.
With technology, information is readily available and accessible.
No, because the youth are exposed to bad habits including alcohol and drug abuse.
Social media has its own bad influence on the youth.
What is your favourite television programme?
The World’s Weirdest on National Geographic Wild.
Do you stay abreast of news events in the country and is it important to you?
Yes, I do and it is important to me because I get to learn what impact current affairs have in the future.
What goals would you like to achieve over the next few years?
If I could I would like to make the world a better place for children, but since that seems so big, I am going to start in my own neighbourhood and find means to ensure children are heard and valued.
