A number of wrestlers stood out during 2013, but it was JP Buys who stood out the most and who took home the most awards.
He was named Cadet Wrester of the year, and Best Approved Junior Wrestler of 2013.
He also took away the Double SA Championship, Most Motivated Wrester of the Year and the award of the evening, Sportsman of the Year for 2013.
Buys’s achievements for the year include receiving Eastern Gauteng colours four times, three South African Championship titles, as well as one second place at a South African Championship.
He was also awarded his national cadet colours for representing the country in two tours, one to the USA and the highlight of his career, so far, wrestling at the World Cadet Championships.
Two of the club’s founding members, Piet Smit and Ben de Bruin, were the honoured guests at the function and they presented the club’s Springbok coach, Nic van der Westhuizen, with the Life Long Honorary Member award.
