
Last week, the Brakpan Pigeon Club raced from Richmond, about 720km away.
The birds were liberated at 6.45am and the first bird back belonged to Thinus van Rensburg.
He clocked it in at 4.50.15pm with a speed of 1 162.267mpm, while second and third places were claimed by Hennie Pienaar and Frik Smith (CX Hokke).
They were timed at 4.52.57pm and 4.57.18pm respectively, with speeds of 1 248.023mpm and 1 140.577mpm.
This week the club raced from Middelburg in the Eastern Cape, 663km away.
The birds were liberated at 9am, but, due to bad weather, the first bird back (Louise du Plooy) was only timed at 5.14.00pm, with a speed of 1 342.094mpm.
Second position was claimed by Ruan Booyse, whose bird timed at 5.17.48pm, with a velocity of 1 340.330mpm.
Third went to Hennie Botha, whose bird was timed at 5.21.44pm, with a speed of 1 334.168mpm.
This week is the last race of the season and the club’s birds will fly from Beaufort West and Three Sisters.
