Brakpan go unbeaten at the turn

Despite a late kick-off and a shortened match, Brakpan Rugby Club’s first XV continued their Valke Peregrine League rampage with a 61-0 victory over Vaal Reefs, at Bosman Stadium, on Saturday, June 6.

The team overcame their opposition with ease at home, as they barged over their opponents’ try line on nine occasions, with wingers Leon Potgieter and Tinus Ueckermann each dotting down twice.

The match started about 45 minutes later than anticipated as the Vaal Reefs team arrived late for the encounter.

The referee also put an end to the game in the second half, with 15 minutes to spare.

Brakpan, therefore, have ended the first round of the Pergerine League unbeaten in first position and have picked up a bonus-point win in every fixture that the team has played.

This bodes well for the club in their pursuit of 2016 Cell C Community Cup rugby.

Try-scorers on the day for the hosts were Potgieter (two), Ueckermann (two), Ronnie Roets, Dirk Odendaal, Neil van der Walt, Theo Becker and Shaun Botes.

Kyle Hilton slotted eight conversions.

In other results, Brakpan Lilywhites (second XV) beat Vaal Reefs 42-15, while the u-21s defeated Vaal Reefs 48-0.

The club will this week enjoy a bye.
