‘Panne’ are ready to rumble

Brakpan Rugby Club will get their 2016 Valke Peregrine League season underway with early round games against league newcomers and “minnow” teams.

The undefeated 2015 league champions will face off against clubs such as Sasolburg, Nigel, Benoni, Vaal University of Technology (VUT) and Kempton Park, all at the Bosman Stadium, in the opening weeks before they meet the stronger club sides, Springs, Vereeniging, Boksburg and East Rand United.

They will head to Delmas on Saturday, February 27, to play North West University (NWU) Vaal in their last pre-season clash at the Delmas Rugby Day.

They will then open their Peregrine League campaign against Sasolburg, at home, on Saturday, March 5.

On Saturday, February 20, the side played Sasol Secunda at the Springs Rugby Day and put in a strong showing, to smash their opponents 51-7.

Right-winger Thinus Ueckermann dotted down on four occasions, while new left-winger Juan Botha started off his time in the famous green jersey with two tries of his own.

New fly half Dirkie Odendaal also impressed those in attendance, putting in a fantastic performance in the number 10 position.

With Gido Horn, Ashley Buchler and Kyle Hinton, Brakpan boasts massive depth in the playmaker position.
