Not a good day at the office for Panne

“We could not prepare as well as we could have because of all the rain recently."

Brakpan Rugby Club’s first XV were defeated by the University of Pretoria, “Tukkies”, in the pre-season Assupol Club Tournament, on Saturday, March 4, in Pretoria.

The team lost 22-10 in the dying embers of the match against the run.

With the score 15-10 in favour of the hosts and the clock running down, the “Panne” were on the attack and ran a move on the opposition’s try line pushing for the win.

A pass that was never on was thrown and was intercepted by a Tuks player who ran 80m to score on the other end and see them win the match 22-10.

According to club chairman Harry Nieuwenhuis, the Panne played a good game and were superior at scrum time.

“Unfortunately, our usually strong line-out did not fire this time and we lost a lot of possession that way,” he said.

“Other than that we are pretty satisfied.

“We could not prepare as well as we could have because of all the rain recently.

“The cancelled game versus Centurion also didn’t make things any easier for us.

“No excuses though, the team will work extremely hard in the next month.”

The team’s next match is on Saturday, March 25, against QBR, a newly formed club from Pretoria.
