‘Boeremeisie’ Lianie May confirmed for Afrikaans Karnaval

Singer, songwriter, actress and true 'boeremeisie', Lianie May, is part of the illustrious line-up of Afrikaans artists to perform at Carnival City’s first ever Afrikaans Karnaval on Saturday, March 25.

May will perform on stage with some of SA’s finest Afrikaans artists including Karlien van Jaarsveld, Tripple 3 (Dozi, Jannie Moolman, Pieter Smith) and many more.

She celebrates a decade in the South African entertainment industry this year, not only as a singer, but also as an exceptionally talented songwriter and remarkable actress.

May has become more than just a household name – she is a darling of Afrikaans music in South Africa.

Likened to Shania Twain and Dolly Parton, this talented blonde beauty’s voice tugs at the heart strings and she is renowned for moving around between fans and making each one feel significant.

Her talent has earned her countless awards, but she says that the Sama she won in 2009 for the top selling album in the country, is one she will forever cherish.

This is the first award of its kind to have been presented to a female artist in the history of South Africa and deservingly so.

Fans can expect to hear songs from Lianie and Jay’s latest album ‘Vir Liefde’ as well as hits from previous albums such as ‘Boerevry’, ‘Bel Bel Bel’, ‘Vrou staan by haar man’, ‘Jy soen my nie meer nie’ and even some of her more nostalgic harmonies such as ‘Toe ‘n twee rand nog ‘n twee rand was’.

Over the last 10 years, May has gone from a boeremeisie from Oranjeville in the Freestate to one of South Africa’s top most remarkable, awarded and celebrated female artists.

Afrikaans Karnaval is real treat for fans, bringing together top Afrikaans artists in action on one stage for one night only.

The show starts at 6pm, but doors to the Big Top Arena open at 5pm.
