Local athletes power to glory
Zahrayuk rose to the occasion on the day against some seasoned competitors.
Raman Zahrayuk was literally too strong for the competition at the recent powerlifting competition, hosted by Brakpan’s Locker’s Muscle Factory Gym.
He topped proceedings with a total Wilks formula total of 337.59 points at a body weight of 82.8kg and lifts totaling 505kg.
Zahrayuk qualified for the national merit blue medal and title and is 93 per cent toward achieving national colours.
Bryce Haddon came second with total lifts of 355kg.
Rachelle Connor took the honours in the women’s category with a total Wilks of 228.79kg at a body weight of 56.2kg with lifts totaling 195kg. The performance sees her qualifying for the national merit yellow medal and title and is 97.5 per cent toward achieving national colours.
The biggest lift of the day was by Mark Fulton, the club’s deadlift captain, with an earth moving 235kg, breaking the club’s record.
Fulton also came third overall with lifts totaling 307.76kg.

The competition’s top sub junior male Anthony Tee weighed in at 62kg and had lift which totaled 350kg and a Wilks total of 289.84kg. He qualified for a national merit yellow medal and is 98.59 per cent toward achieving national colours.
Top masters’ man Egmont Redelinghuys came in at 93kg bodyweight with lift totals 425kg and a Wilks total of 267.67kg.
Egmont qualifies for national merit yellow medal and title. He is 80.19 per cent towards achieving national colours.
With all these top performances Muscle Factory will be hoping their athletes can maintain their form as they look to compete at the national championships in April, next year.
GPC World Championships contender Mark Esch was one of the judges. He will be competing for a world title in Hungary on November 2.
Locker’s gym hosts competitions every month rotating between powerlifting, x-training and team x-fire lifting which is a two-person team event combining the likes of weightlifting, CrossFit, powerlifting, strongman and military in competitive workout formats.
