Hoërskool Die Anker learners lend a helping hand at Brakpan SPCA

From cleaning kennels to spending time with animals, learners demonstrated strong community spirit during their weekend visit.

The Ankerraad of Hoërskool Die Anker visited the Brakpan SPCA on April 11, contributing both time and resources to support the society’s work.

The visit started with an official tour of the premises, where learners were introduced to the role and mission of the SPCA.

The group, however, quickly moved beyond observation, and assisted staff with daily operations.

Their efforts included cleaning kennels, washing food bowls, preparing meals, and setting up bedding to ensure the animals’ comfort.

A highlight of the visit was the time spent interacting with the animals. Learners engaged with them through supervised play, providing both stimulation and companionship.

SPCA staff noted the positive impact of this interaction on both the animals and the learners.

In addition to their hands-on involvement, the school collected and donated a significant quantity of supplies ahead of the visit, further supporting the SPCA’s needs.

The society commended the learners, as well as their teachers and parents, for their commitment and community spirit.

The SPCA described the initiative as an encouraging example of youth involvement and compassion. They were thanked for their contribution and invited to return in future.
