House robbers hit three Brakpan properties

A woman was dragged into her home in Dalpark Ext 6, while families in Leachville and Sherwood Gardens were threatened at gunpoint during separate house robberies.

Residents in three Brakpan suburbs were robbed in separate incidents over two days, with armed robbers making off with cash, electronics, jewellery and other household items.

The first incident took place at an address along Stormberg Street in Dalpark Ext 6 on May 29.

According to police information, the resident was at home alone when she noticed a vehicle park next to her gate at about 15:00.

Five men got out of the vehicle and asked her for the name of a street in the Dalpark area.
When she told them she did not know of such a street, one of the men opened the gate, which was closed but not locked.

He grabbed the woman, covered her mouth with his hand and dragged her into the house. The robbers demanded jewellery, but the woman told them she did not have any.

They then searched the house, found jewellery and also took the jewellery she was wearing. They also took a TV and a DStv decoder.

The robbers were reportedly driving a white vehicle resembling a Chery Tiggo.

On May 30, a Leachville resident was threatened at gunpoint during a house robbery at his Sapelie Street home.

The resident was at home with his family when he heard a knock at the door at around 20:00. The person outside was calling him by name.

When he opened the door, he found two men outside.

One of them claimed that a person had stolen his microwave and cellphone, and had sold them to the resident. The man wanted to search the house for the items.

The resident refused, stating that the man was not a police officer and did not have a warrant to search the premises.

The man then threatened him with a gun and told him they would have to do things “the hard way”.

He instructed the resident to open the door. The pair stole cash, a TV and two cellphones before fleeing the scene in a vehicle, which the resident heard driving away.

In a separate incident a short while later, robbers targeted a Sherwood Gardens residence in Malan Street, terrorising a couple and their children.

The robbers gained access to the house at about 20:30 and confronted the husband and wife in their bedroom.

The exact number of robbers involved was not indicated.

The robbers, who were armed with firearms, pointed their weapons at the husband. He was forced to kneel down while the robbers covered his face with a blanket and tied his hands with shoelaces.

Another robber brought the couple’s children into the bedroom, where the family was locked inside.

The robbers stole iPhones, an iPad, laptops, a suitcase containing clothing, an inverter, a 9kg gas bottle, a TV, groceries, and the keys and spare keys to a Suzuki Fronx before fleeing.

Cases of house robbery are under investigation by Brakpan SAPS.
