The seller reportedly jumped onto the median strip as a detective in plain clothes drove towards the four-way stop in Kaolin Street next to Hoërskool Carletonville at about 10:00 last Friday. He was wearing a face mask, as required, and a long brown coat. “As I stopped, he suddenly opened his coat and produced some cigarettes. He said I could buy one for R20,” the police officer told the Herald. The man’s expectation turned into misery, however, when the officer produced his police identification instead of the money.
“I instructed him to get onto the back of my bakkie and I took him back to the police station to be formally charged,” says the officer.
