New bigger Rotalia charity shop in Oberholzer
The Rotalia Centre for the Disabled’s popular charity shop reopened at a new venue in Oberholzer this week.

According to Ms Dina McKay, the fundraiser for Rotalia, the shop opened at 96 Oranje Street on Monday morning.
The centre secured the building in which the shop is located towards the end of last year. The building previously belonged to Romlinsons Stationers.
“As the premises is about three times bigger than our old shop behind the police station, we can now sell about three times more second-hand goods than before,” she says.
Anything from good quality second-hand clothing, cutlery and portraits to furniture and even washing basins are currently for sale.
The shop was originally started two years ago to raise money for Rotalia’s new premises and the centre itself.
Although the Rotalia Centre currently still shares the premises of Rotara School in Watersedge, the Department of Education has assisted the school with new premises and it will soon be moving. The move is necessary because of the ground stability issues at the current address at Watersedge.
The Rotalia Centre falls under the jurisdiction of the Department of Social Services, however, and, therefore, the education department cannot accommodate it too.
According to MacKay, Rotalia takes care of about 40 disabled adults, 27 of whom live in the hostel permanently. Thirteen of them are orphans with nowhere else to go.
The rest of the centre’s activities will also be moved to the new building once it can be done according to Covid-19 lockdown regulations.
The new shop is open from 09:00 to 17:00 from Mondays to Fridays.
Anyone wishing to donate second-hand goods is welcome to drop it off at the new premises.
