Wedela police warn primary school learners about dangers of drugs, bullying, and crime
Although outreaches had been held to various school's, one learner's attitude shocked everyone this week.
The police in Wedela reached out to primary school learners to warn them about possible dangers.
On February 26 the Wedela Police’s Social Crime Prevention Officer, Sergeant Zikhona Sifuba, together with members of the Youth Desk and the CPF’s vice chairperson Keitumetsi Olifant went to Wedela Primary School.
They arrived at the school at approximately 07:30 and immediately talked to Grade 4, 5, 6, and 7 learners. A total of 428 learners attended.
“We were addressing the learners about drugs, behaviour problems, and bullying,” says Sifuba.
She added that police members were shocked when one of the speakers asked the learners what they wanted to be when they grew up and one learner replied that he wanted to be a thug.
“I interviewed him to make sure if he was joking, but he answered me proudly saying that he likes guns and the lifestyle of the thugs,” says Sifuba.
“I will involve the school’s social worker and his parents. We cannot have a child who volunteers to be a thug at this time and age.
I’m pleading with the parents to talk to their children one-on-one. Please educate your children about life and dangerous things happening outside. Social Crime and the Youth desk, Victim empowerment, CPF, and Community Safety will do our part at schools but at home parents must please help us,” Sifuba added.
