Another motorist hijacked by fake police using blue lights

Blue-light hijackers strike again as motorist kidnapped on R559 near Randfontein

Yet another motorist has fallen victim to blue-light hijackers in our area this week.

The crime took place on July 10.

A 32-year-old motorist was driving his white Isuzu bakkie along the R559 road towards Randfontein when he suddenly noticed a white Ford Ranger bakkie equipped with blue lights behind him.

The driver of the Ford Ranger signalled for the motorist to pull over.

The motorist complied, and a man posing as an officer approached his vehicle. The “officer” claimed he had stopped the motorist for driving recklessly.

When the driver explained that he was merely swerving to avoid potholes in the road, the fake officer questioned him, asking where in the K53 driver’s education manual it stated that a driver is permitted to swerve to avoid potholes.

Suddenly, a second man got out of the Ford Ranger and pointed a firearm at the motorist. The hijackers, who spoke isiZulu, forced the victim into the back of the Ford Ranger and covered his face with a beanie.
While they were driving, the victim could hear one of his captors speaking to another person on the phone about his vehicle.

The criminals later transferred the motorist into a different vehicle and continued driving. He was eventually dropped off and abandoned in Meadowlands, Soweto.
