Hitchhiker kidnapped and robbed by armed suspects in Carletonville

A 37-year-old man was kidnapped and robbed while hitchhiking to Fochville on 3 December.

A hitchhiker was kidnapped and robbed by a group of thugs.

The 37-year-old man was hitchhiking to Fochville on the evening of December 3. He was standing in Annan Road, near the Astron filling station, when a navy blue VW Polo with three men inside pulled up beside him.

The men, who spoke Tsonga, asked him where he was going, and when he said he wanted to go to Fochville, the driver told him to get in.

He had just climbed into the car when the passenger in the front seat asked him for money. He had just taken out R20 when the passenger next to him pulled out a firearm and pointed it at him.

The thug said that they wanted more money and drove off with him. They continued past a Sibanye-Stillwater sign and then turned onto a gravel road. They stopped and dragged the victim out of the car. They searched him and took his cellphone, bank card, clothes, and all his money and left him on the side of the road as they sped off.

Luckily, he was not injured.

The police in Carletonville are investigating armed robbery and kidnapping charges.
