Raw sewage continues to flow into Wonderfonteinspruit near Khutsong more than a year after leak was reported

Raw sewage continues to flow into the Wonderfonteinspruit from a broken municipal pipeline near Khutsong, more than a year after the leak was first reported, as residents question ongoing delays in repairs.

Raw sewage is still pouring into the Wonderfonteinspruit from a broken municipal pipe, more than a year after the leak was first reported.

The damaged pipeline sits on a bridge and connects the sewage network from the older sec-tions of Khutsong, on the other side of the river, to the Khutsong Sewerage Works.

The Merafong City Local Municipality has previously blamed vandals for the broken pipe. As a result of ongoing problems with criminals, officials promised to build a wall around the Khutsong Sewerage Works last year. However, the work is far from finished.

Locals who visit the area often say the builders left the site back in November and have not returned.

The Herald took the issue to the municipality’s marketing and communications manager, Temba Fezani.

“The team is currently investigating and will act accordingly.

The project is still in progress and the delay was due to the December holiday’s closure,” he answered.
