Fochville murder trial postponed to April

Natasha died almost three years ago and the trial is still continuing.

The criminal trial of the murder of Natasha Wheeler Barnard from Fochville again proceeded in court this week.

Several witnesses testified in the case, which is being held in the Fochville Regional Court. The case is being heard by Regional Magistrate Fatima Khan.

Wheeler Barnard (33) died on March 4, 2022, after she was allegedly assaulted in the Boulevard restaurant and pub the previous evening. This business has since closed.

The trial started on August 21 last year and, at this stage, a former employee of the Boulevard, Rudolph Pretorius, is the only accused.

On January 16 the two men from Potchefstroom who had coincidentally been in the Boulevard on the evening of the attack, Paul Geldenhuys and Jacques Brink, testified.

Cecilia Storbeck started her testimony on Friday. She will continue when the case proceeds on 15 and 16 April.

Storbeck was one of six people originally arrested after the murder, but the case against her was withdrawn in December 2023.
