Murder Case of Westcol student Katlego Makuwa postponed again in Oberholzer Court

The man accused of murdering Westcol student Katlego Makuwa appeared in the Oberholzer Magistrate’s Court on November 25, where the matter was postponed once again.

The man accused of the brutal murder of Westcol student Katlego Makuwa appeared in the Oberholzer Magistrate’s Court again on November 25.

Makuwa was brutally killed on May 25 at the student house in Beryl Street in Carletonville where she stayed while studying.

Her body was discovered two days later, and the suspect first appeared in court in June.

The recent appearance was the fifth time the matter has come before the court. Makuwa’s parents and family, who travelled from Krugersdorp, attended in the faith that justice would be served.

They were joined by concerned community members and fellow students, who gathered peacefully outside the courthouse with their placards.

According to the family, the case was once again postponed, and they claim they have received no recent updates from the investigating officer.

They expressed frustration, feeling that the case is not being handled with the seriousness it deserves.

The latest development is that the matter will be moving to the High Court, although a date has not yet been confirmed.

The family says they are looking ahead to next year, hopeful that the trial will finally move forward.

Makuwa’s brutal death has left scars on many hearts. Her parents describe her as a humble, respectful, and ambitious young woman who had just begun her first year of college after completing matric in Kagiso Township. She was studying mechanical engineering.

“It’s sad to see someone of such calibre being removed from society.”

Community members gathered outside the court and waited patiently throughout the appearance before dispersing again peacefully.
