Carletonville SPCA warns against fireworks as New Year’s Eve approaches
The Carletonville SPCA is urging residents to avoid setting off fireworks on New Year’s Eve, warning that loud bangs and bright flashes cause extreme distress to animals. The organisation will be on standby for emergencies despite offices reopening on January 5.
The Carletonville SPCA’s office manager, Wanda Kramer asks residents to please avoid setting off fireworks on New Year’s Eve.
Not only is this illegal, but it traumatises pets.
The National Council of Societies for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (NSPCA), to which the Carletonville SPCA is linked, has also raised serious concerns about the harmful effects of fireworks on pets and wildlife, warning that the loud bangs and bright flashes can cause extreme distress and even fatal outcomes during festive celebrations.
As New Year’s Eve approaches, the organisation urges people to think twice before setting off fireworks, highlighting how these displays turn joyful moments into nightmares for animals with sensitive hearing and instincts.
The Carletonville SPCA’s emergency number is 064 752 6035.
Although Carletonville SPCA will be on standby on NewYear’s Eve, their office will only be officially open again on Monday January 5.
