Major police crackdown in Merafong leads to 25 arrests and seizure of stolen firearm

Joint operation by SAPS, Home Affairs, and security teams targets crime hotspots in Carletonville, Khutsong, and surrounding areas

A regional action by the police and other law enforcers took various criminals off the street this week.
Members of the SAPS from Carletonville, Fochville, Khutsong, and Wedela, as well as traffic officers, officials from the Department of Home Affairs, and security companies, held the crackdown on March 26.
Some of the officers and officials held a large roadblock just before the bridge at Khutsong Extension 5, while the others held crime prevention actions elsewhere in the area. During the roadblock, police officers found a 9mm pistol that was stolen in Randfontein last year and immediately arrested the person in possession of it.
Another big success was the closing of an illegal shebeen in Blyvoor. Four suspects were also arrested for having drugs, while various people were found with stolen goods. Fourteen illegal immigrants were also arrested.
A total of 25 suspects were arrested during the course of the action.
