Carletonville learners honoured at SAPS Junior Commissioners inauguration

West Rand District ceremony at Maropeng celebrates young leaders promoting crime prevention and community safety

Learners from the Carletonville area, recently chosen as junior representatives at the Carletonville police station, attended a regional event as part of their new responsibilities.
The learners were chosen for their tasks as part of the SAPS’s Junior Commissioner Project, which aims to empower young people to take part in crime prevention and to foster leadership, mentorship, and ethical values within schools and communities. It also helps reduce school violence and forms a bridge with the authorities.
These SAPS junior commissioners, Lizalise Magwanya (Junior Station Commander) and Reratiloe Moiloa (Junior Visible Policing Commander) from Hoërskool Carletonville and Bonolo Diethane (Junior Detective Commander) and Minenhle Mfubezi (Junior Support Commander) from Hoërskool Wonderfontein, attended the Westrand District Junior Commissioners’ inauguration ceremony at Maropeng on March 25.
The SAPS Social Crime Prevention and Domestic Violence Coordinator, Sergeant Thabo Mathebula, accompanied the group.
“The day started with a speech from the outgoing district junior commissioners. They signed off and handed over to incoming junior commissioners,” says Mathebula.
He adds that all the junior commissioners from West Rand District then received certificates of appreciation and medals from district commissioner, Major General Lorraine Challen. They also received junior commissioners’ jackets, handed to them by their acting station commander, Colonel Wessel Prinsloo of Carletonville SAPS.
