SADAG hosts mental health awareness day at Mbulelelo Primary School
Johannesburg-based organisation engages learners and teachers to address growing mental health challenges
The South African Depression and Anxiety Group (SADAG) members visited Mbulelelo Primary School recently for a mental wellness awareness activity. The Deputy Principal, Paul Msutu, mentioned the need to pay deeper attention to social issues that are affecting both learners and teachers.
He then invited the Johannesburg-based organisation to grace the school with their presence. They spent the whole day at the school, from morning to afternoon, engaging with learners and teachers during various sessions. The day was productive, as the response from the teachers was very welcoming, indicating the importance of involving such organisations in the working and learning environment.
SADAG is South Africa’s premier mental health non-governmental organisation, dedicated to providing free and accessible support, resources, and education to individuals and communities nationwide. The organisation has existed for over 30 years and has served as a lifeline for millions of South Africans, helping those struggling with mental health challenges, emotional distress, and crisis situations.
SADAG’s mission is to reduce stigma, promote awareness, advocate for mental health rights, and ensure that every South African has access to the care they need. They are committed to creating a society that is more informed, supportive, and compassionate, helping individuals find strength, healing, and a way forward.
The Deputy Principal was encouraged that mental health issues are finally being taken seriously, as they have become a major problem that needs to be addressed openly.
