Kokosi teacher’s identity used in job scam targeting desperate applicants

Fraudster impersonates local educator to lure victims with fake school post and upfront payment demand

A teacher from Kokosi is warning the community to be careful after discovering that scammers are using her name and photo to steal money from unsuspecting job seekers.

Dipuo Qupe, who teaches at Kokosi Primary School, became very worried when she found out someone was pretending to be her online.

The scammer sent out messages claiming there was a new job for a Foundation Phase teacher at the school. To make people rush, the criminal told job seekers they only had one day left to apply.

The scammer also tried to trick people into paying a fee of R1 670. They claimed this money was needed at the district offices to get an official appointment letter. Qupe says the person stole her picture and started messaging people using her identity.

“I have already alerted the authorities. We must alert people to what is happening.”

If you see a message about a job that uses Qupe’s photo or asks for money, do not respond, but immediately notify the police in Fochville.
