Dollar Thugs: Rising Khutsong music group making waves in Merafong entertainment scene

From local performances to radio features, the Extension 3-based crew continues to grow its brand through music, events, and media exposure

Dollar Thugs is a music group from Khutsong Township, based in Extension 3, which was started in 2018 by Mageja, also known as Jakalas, and Nicolas Poni, also known as Mainact. Their first song was recorded in 2019, titled Imali (meaning “Money”), followed by Dollar Thugs in Paradise, and they managed to shoot music videos for both songs.

They were later joined by other members such as Shodangamalobola, Thabiso (also known as T-Smart), and Hlumelo Mputa (also known as Blow’p). They have been able to secure bookings at local venues such as Madala’s Place, Megalos Place, and Eddie’s Carwash.

The dedicated crew has also hosted their own events at Khutsong Stadium, such as Youth Day in 2020 and 2021, where they managed to book Roman BnB Guest House from their own pockets.

Dollar Thugs also initiated several events at Chesa by Night in Carletonville, where they were supported by the owner, Mr Vincent Kamanga, who has played an instrumental role in the careers of several local artists and has contributed positively to the Merafong entertainment scene.

They were recently invited to Merafong 360 Radio Station during the Kasi Jam Sessions, hosted on Thursday evenings by KGEE, where they showcased their talents on air and received a positive response from the online community.

The crew is also quite multi-talented, as they include models, actors, producers, as well as a motivational speaker, who is the founder of the group. He has also managed to secure media appearances on national TV shows such as Agenda Network, Venting Podcast, Mephos Show, Chris Network, as well as SABC platforms like Kwekwezi FM and Ndebele TV News.

Their content is available on the online platform YouTube under “Dollar Thugs” and on Audiomack under “Dollar Nation.”
