Gauteng Department of Health warns residents about fake WhatsApp job offers

Residents are urged to stay alert as scammers posing as Gauteng health officials use WhatsApp to advertise fake job opportunities and request CV submissions.

The Gauteng Department of Health has issued an urgent warning to residents to be on the lookout for scammers posing as health officials to offer fake employment opportunities.

According to Matabo Letsoalo, the communication officer at Carletonville Hospital, a syndicate is currently operating on WhatsApp. In this scam, an individual falsely claims to be a director at West Rand District Health Services, offering jobs and asking applicants to get in touch.

Letsoalo clarified that the Gauteng Department of Health does not recruit through WhatsApp or external companies, nor does it request CVs through informal WhatsApp messages or emails outside of official channels.

“We will never ask for payment for jobs or assessments. All vacancies are only advertised through the DPSA circular, the Gauteng Professional Job Centre: https://jobs.gauteng.gov.za/, and selected reputable newspapers,” he said.

Letsoalo added that if anyone is asked to pay money, submit their CV informally, or apply urgently through WhatsApp, it is a scam, and people must always verify the details before responding.
