Water tanker hijacked and driver kidnapped near Carletonville
Driver abducted at gunpoint while en route to deliver water to Blyvooruitzicht; hijacked truck worth R900 000 remains missing.
A water tanker was hijacked and its driver kidnapped during an incident in the Carletonville area on May 23.
The driver of the Fuso FJ water tanker truck, belonging to the company KAASHU Projects, was on his way to deliver water to Blyvooruitzicht at about 09:30.
He stopped at the T-junction of Dolomite Street and the R501 and got out of the vehicle to relieve himself. Suddenly, a grey vehicle and a white vehicle stopped next to the truck.
Four unknown men got out and approached the driver. One of the men grabbed him, and when the driver started to resist, the attacker pointed a firearm at him.
The criminals forced the driver into the white vehicle, where they instructed him to get into the back and look down. They then drove off with him.
He was later dropped off in Ennerdale, where he luckily managed to get help to return to Carletonville. By printing time, the truck, which has the registration number HL 29 TX GP, was still missing.
The vehicle is worth about R900 000.
The police in Carletonville are currently investigating cases of hijacking and kidnapping.
