Khutsong Ext 5 clinic set to open after nearly a decade of delays
Premier Panyaza Lesufi promises long-awaited healthcare facility will be completed and handed over during the 2026/27 financial year.
The Khutsong Ext 5 clinic is finally expected to open soon, nearly a decade after it was built and following years of empty promises.
The clinic has been standing empty since it was built in 2017. Although it originally had some equipment inside, these had to be removed after thieves and vandals struck.
In 2024 the then Gauteng MEC for Health, Nomantu Nkomo-Ralehoko, Ralehoko promised during the State of the Province Debate that the clinic would be completed and operational.
Nothing, however, materialized since this time.
After a visit to the facility recently, the Gauteng Premier, Panyaza Lesufi, made new promises that the clinic will be opened soon.
During a visit to Khutsong on June 7 he apologized profusely to the community for the long delays with completing the clinic.
“As of Monday June 8 we have appointed people to complete the construction of the Khutsong South Clinic,” he said.
He also urged residents to respect the construction work that is now taking place and said that the project will be handed over in the current 2026/2027 financial year.
“The company responsible for not completing the clinic has been fired.
People who are responsible for delays in construction should not interfere once we begin. I will dismiss, arrest and blacklist to prevent wrongdoing from taking place,” Lesufi added.
