Local farmers and motorists are raising the alarm over the hazardous condition of a vital link road turning off the R500 towards the N14. The poorly maintained route, located approximately 5km outside Carletonville, has deteriorated to a shocking degree.

Although the first section of the road, known to some as the “Ventersdorp Road,” was repaired about two years ago, tthe remaining stretch has been completely neglected.

One frustrated resident warned that the road is no longer safe for standard cars or bakkies.

The motorist noted that heavy trucks frequently use the route, with some drivers speeding or even travelling on the wrong side of the road to avoid the craters.

The situation has become so dangerous and exhausting that some locals are now choosing to take longer alternative routes instead.

The Herald has taken these serious safety concerns directly to Bulelwa Thomas, the Krugersdorp Regional Manager of the Department of Roads and Transport.
