Farmer raises alarm after fatal light aircraft crash near Fochville
Quick response by a local farmer, emergency services and the Fochville CPF followed the crash that claimed the lives of two young men.
A farmer from the Fochville area, together with emergency services and the Fochville Community Policing Forum (CPF), acted swiftly after witnessing a light aircraft crash that claimed the lives of two young men.
Kobus Nortje was standing outside his home in the Losberg area at approximately 17:00 when he saw the aircraft stall before plunging to the ground. He immediately alerted emergency services, prompting a rapid response to the scene.
According to the Aeronautical Rescue Co-ordination Centre (ARCC), ambulances from Gauteng Emergency Medical Services, ER24 and Netcare911 were dispatched to the crash site, while helicopters from Netcare911 and Rocket HEMS were placed on standby to provide aerial support.
Sadly, the two occupants of the aircraft were declared dead at the scene after suffering fatal injuries.
The men had reportedly taken off from Lanseria Airport before the crash.
Several agencies assisted with the response, including the Fochville Community Policing Forum, the SAPS Air Wing and the SAPS K9 Unit.
The cause of the crash has not yet been determined. Authorities are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
