Young Carletonville beauty queen turns international dream into community mission
Seven-year-old Kehumile Mabele is using her journey to the Tiny Miss Nations Brazil pageant to inspire confidence and a love of mathematics among local children.
Carletonville’s Kehumile Mabele (7) will represent South Africa at the Tiny Miss Nations Brazil pageant while using her platform to empower children through confidence-building and mathematics initiatives.
Seven-year-old Kehumile Mabele from Carletonville is turning her dream of representing South Africa on the international stage into a mission to inspire and uplift other children.
The Rockland Primary School learner from Blyvoor has been selected to represent South Africa at the Tiny Miss Nations Brazil pageant.
According to her mother, Tshidi Mabele, Kehumile enjoys storytelling, dancing, solving mathematics problems and asking thought-provoking questions. However, the defining moment in her pageant journey had little to do with winning a crown.
After congratulatory messages began pouring in following her selection, Kehumile, who lives with her mother in Oberholzer, asked a simple but powerful question: “What about other kids?”
That question inspired the launch of Tiny Crown, Big Impact, a campaign through which Kehumile is using her platform to give back to her community. The initiative includes confidence-building sessions for underserved children, helping to nurture self-belief, leadership and the confidence to pursue their dreams.
It was during these sessions, while watching children flourish when someone believed in them, that an even bigger vision began to emerge.
Inspired by Kehumile’s love of learning and her natural enthusiasm for mathematics, Tshidi created Mila the Math Whizz, a platform designed to make mathematics engaging, relatable and developmentally appropriate for African children.
