Armed house robbery in Khutsong Ext 5 leaves family traumatised

Two armed intruders woke a Khutsong Ext 5 resident after breaking into his home before stealing cash, cellphones, a television and other valuables.

Another home in Khutsong Ext 5 has been targeted by two house robbers in the early hours of the morning.

The incident took place at approximately 01:15 on July 1. A 31-year-old homeowner was sleeping in his house in the 70s area of the township when he was suddenly awoken by a loud bang. Upon getting up to investigate the noise, he came face to face with two intruders inside his home.

The criminals, who spoke Sesotho and isiXhosa, were armed with a handgun and a rifle.

They demanded to know where the resident was hiding his money.

When the homeowner explained that he had no money, the thieves proceeded to search the property.

They grabbed his wife’s handbag, which contained her money and ID, and also stole two cellphones, a TV set, and clothes.

The robbers then fled the scene, firing several shots into the air as they ran out of the house.
