Blyvoor woman and accomplices arrested after fake kidnapping

They have already appeared in court.

A 31-year-old woman from Blyvooruitzicht and three accomplices were arrested for perjury and extortion after she faked her own kidnapping to get money.

On September 31 she told her husband she was heading to town.

Later, her husband received a voice note claiming she was kidnapped and demanding R200 000 for her safe return.

He reported the case to the Carletonville Police, and Warrant Officer Claudia Buthelezi led the investigation.

Officers found the woman hiding in her friend’s room in New Mandela, Khutsong, on October 3.

Police discovered she invented the entire kidnapping story because she allegedly needed cash. She and her accomplices have since appeared in court.
