Young man’s body found at Bloukrans Bridge in the Western Cape

A 19-year-old man reportedly drove to the bridge from George, got out and jumped off the notorious bridge.

The body of a young man was found at the Bloukrans Bridge yesterday, after he is believed to have jumped to his death according to police.

“Emergency services personnel were dispatched to a scene at Bloukrans Bridge on the N2 highway at Storms River at about 13:35 yesterday, after a man jumped from the bridge,” says Southern Cape police spokesperson Sergeant Chris Spies.

According to Spies, information available indicates that a man (19) left George traveling in a Hyundai motor vehicle.

“He arrived at the bridge and exited this vehicle before he jumped. His body was located and a search and rescue operation [was] activated,” he explains.

“The team proceeded with the recovery operation to retrieve the body of the victim at first daylight this morning. Plettenberg Bay police opened an inquest docket for further investigation.”

The young man’s death comes less than two months after a biker plunged to his death at the bridge.
