Vaal Dam level rises to 49.56%

“Over this weekend we have seen a slight spike in the levels of the Vaal Dam, due to rains that have fallen. On Friday we were at about 44.4%, by this morning the dam had risen to 49.56%. We are hoping that with more rain we will be able to maintain that level or even better.”

Department of Water and Sanitation spokesperson, Sputnik Ratau has confirmed that the Vaal Dam level has risen 49.56%.

“Over this weekend we have seen a slight spike in the levels of the Vaal Dam, due to rains that have fallen. On Friday we were at about 44.4%, by this morning the dam had risen to 49.56%. We are hoping that with more rain we will be able to maintain that level or even better.”

Ratau says  recent rains will help overcome the slight decline on the national average of dam levels seen in the past two weeks. Ratau  adds that more rains are needed in Free State and Mpumalanga, as they feed the Vaal Dam system.

“The rains that fall over Joburg and Pretoria feed the Harbeesport Dam through the Juskei River and Crocodile River, and that doesn’t help us (the Vaal Dam) a lot.”
