Avoid Carletonville Police Station area

Motorists are advised to avoid the area in front of the Carletonville Police Station as it is currently being blocked by minibus taxis.

Taxis have closed off the part of Gold Street between Annan Road and the Carletonville Post Office.

According to reports they are currently being addressed by the police.

The issues are most probably related to the ongoing violence in the local taxi industry. Except for the fact that several prominent members of the local taxi industry were murdered in the past two years, residents have also recently started to complain that taxi marshals are harassing them.

The municipality said last week that a meeting about the harassment would be held between representatives of the local taxi industry, local and provincial traffic departments and the SAPS this week.

This screen grab from another posted video show how the taxis are blocking the road toward Annan Road.
