Cook out event at Khutsong

It was a fun day that consisted of good food, sports and entertainment.

Batswaneng Section celebrated Human Rights Day with a cookout at the community park on Thursday, 21 March.

According to Mr Fats Mohlakoana (organiser), the event showcased local food vendors and created a platform for catering entrepreneurs not recognised as small businesses.

Khutsong is relatively unfamiliar with the food market concept. Through the initiative, Mohlakoana aimed to start creating a local economy and accessibility to various authentic home-cooked meals.

The event incorporated soccer matches, kiddies entertainment, and food stalls across the park. Corporates like Nedbank promoted their products and services.

Community members could relax and enjoy their holiday with food and music from local DJs like Deep Dish, DJ Afro Maggz, Abuti, Pana Lechalaba, Walnut, DJ Stuart, Sdala and Master P.

The Human Rights Day cookout followed the success of a similar, smaller one in Carletonville last year.

This time, the organisers brought it closer to the community and linked it to the public holiday as there are usually no activities on the day.

Mohlakoana also recognised the importance of people acknowledging their human rights.

The event began at 08:00, with activities throughout the day. The attendees could give their feedback and input as to improving the initiative.

The event’s vision was to contribute to alleviating poverty by creating employment and reducing crime, occupying the community with wholesome activities.

The next cookout is in September, with more stalls, corporates, entertainers and activities.
